Underwater Paintings by Samantha French

Introducing the latest oil and gouache paintings by the New York based artist Samantha French with a selection of underwater visuals. She mentions that: “My current body of work is focused on swimmers underwater and above. Using vague yet consuming memories from my childhood summers spent immersed in the tepid lakes of northern Minnesota, (…)”. That’s why her paintings look so transparent, reflections or her younger thoughts when everything feels cleary and pure. “I attempt to recreate the quiet tranquillity of water and nature; of days spent sinking and floating, still and peaceful.”

Her artwork is filled with detailed contrasts of colors used to distinguish the waterline with the sky, the bubbles, the sun touching the faces, all elements together give you a sense of peace and silence, that transport you for the feelings you have when you are underwater. You can follow more of her artwork at Instagram or her website.
