Music Sheet Collages by Erika Iris Simmons

Apr 27, 2012 by     No Comments    Posted under: Design

It’s the first time we’re featuring the creative Erika Iris Simmons artwork. These are some collages that reconfigures sheet music to create portraits and other illustrations. “My name is Erika Iris Simmons and I like to take things- random things- like what you would find at a garage sale or in a thrift store- and make them into composite art. Most of my pieces become portraits of people associated with the item I’ve chosen. I don’t really add any paint or pigments… I usually just take things apart and re-arrange the pieces, cutting away portions when necessary.” Erika is well known for her “Ghost in the Machine” series that features a number of portraits of musicians made out of recycled cassette tape. More of her artwork can be found at Flickr.
